The fat in avocados is the “heart healthy” monounsaturated type called oleic acid, which speeds up metabolism and helps you to burn more calories. Oleic acid has also been linked to reduced inflammation and is shown to reduce the risk of certain cancers.

Eating avocadoshas been shown to:

  • Reduce total cholesterol levels significantly.
  • Reduce blood triglycerides by up to 20%.
  • Lower LDL (bad) cholesterol by up to 22%.
  • Increase HDL (good) cholesterol by up to 11%. Avocado contains a unique type of carbohydrate called mannoheptulose, which lowers the secretion of insulin and prevents the body from storing fat.
