Our bodies actually need sodium; It is a very necessary thing. Every cell in our body needs sodium. It regulates the balance of fluids in our bodies, it helps our muscles contract, it stabilizes blood sugar levels, it helps with circulation, it regulates the function of nerves and their impulses, and it even helps regulate blood pressure! It is very important! So why, then, are we warned to lower our salt intake to help lower our blood pressure?

It is because most people use regular table salt and that is the culprit. Table salt is actually 97.5% sodium chloride (NaCl) and 2.5% chemicals such as moisture absorbents and iodine. Table salt is dried at over 1,200 degrees Fahrenheit which alters the natural structure of the salt. The processing of the salt strips away all the wonderful benefits that salt can have naturally. Our blood pressure rises quickly when we ingest table salt because our blood is trying to move these toxic chemicals away from our heart. Using table salt means that we are doing harm to our body systems, missing some amazing health benefits, and depriving our bodies of needed minerals. Did you know that table salt can actually cause cellulite?

There are many different types of salt as you can see in the picture. We will just debunk a few of them for you here and give you some information on why we recommend Pink Himalayan Sea Salt so strongly.

Sea Salt
Don’t be fooled by the marketing tactics with “Sea Salt” blasted on their package. All salt is sea salt because it all comes from the sea at one time or another, therefore the term “sea salt” is essentially trivial. Sea salt is also slightly processed, although depending on the brands, most of the processing is not be as harmful as most table salts. Sea salt is usually processed through the evaporation of ocean water or water from saltwater lake and usually contains trace minerals.

By weight, sea salt and table salt contain the same amount of sodium. Other than that, the most notable differences between sea salt and table salt are in their taste, texture, and, as mentioned previously, the processing.

Celtic Salt
Celtic sea salt is better than the aforementioned salt products, but not as good as Pink Himalayan Salt. Celtic Sea Salt is unrefined, does not contain any chemicals, preservatives, or any other additives, and is naturally harvested in Brittany, France, near the Celtic sea. It is harvested by hand leaving it unprocessed so it contains those important trace minerals. Compared to other salts, the biggest difference is that the current ocean is exposed to many environmental challenges (mercury, lead, plastic & petroleum toxins, chemicals, etc.) that ancient seas never experienced.
