A healthy liver and alkaline body mean effective weight loss.

We know that detoxifying means eliminating certain toxic “foods” like alcohol, artificial sweeteners, and highly processed foods, but our body will function better when we give it the nutrients it needs.

Water is of the utmost importance in keeping your liver healthy. It is needed to produce quality bile so that fat can be broken down and flushed out. Lack of water makes the bile thick and congested which hampers the fat-burning ability of your liver, which, in turn, slows down your metabolism and weight loss efforts.

Adding warm lemon water to your first-thing-in-the-morning routine to boost your body’s weight-loss ability. Before you consume anything at all, drink 8 to 16 ounces of warm water with freshly-squeezed lemon juice. The vitamin C in the lemon helps produce glutathione (see below).

Eat these types of food to give your body a helping hand with its detoxifying efforts. Your ideal weight is within reach!

Sulfur-rich foods

These foods break down fatty toxins into water-soluble toxins so they can be transported OUT!

Garlic, onions, eggs, and red peppers. Also cruciferous veggies like cabbage, kale, bok choy, cauliflower, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts.

Soluble fiber foods

Soluble fiber grabs the fats hanging out in the intestine and escorts them OUT of the body!

Apples, apple cider vinegar, legumes, oat bran, whole oats, and pears are a few to try.

Dark green, leafy vegetables

These contain chlorophyll which purifies the blood and magnesium which is needed to make enzymes that break down toxins.

Try adding greens like arugula, beet greens, all types of Swiss chard, collard greens, dandelion greens, endive, escarole, frisée, kale, lettuces (but NOT iceberg), mustard greens, radicchio, spinach, spring mix, turnip greens, and watercress to your diet.

Foods with glutathione

Glutathione is a powerful antioxidant that “handcuffs” toxins to other molecules to be sent OUT of the body.

These foods include asparagus, avocado, whey protein, and walnuts.

Citrus fruits

Citrus contains vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant that stimulates the production of glutathione.

Eat as a snack or add slices to your water!

Artichoke hearts

These have the ability to aid in the secretion of bile and contain flavanoids that protect the cells of the liver.

Artichokes may be served hot or cold. Roast, saute, add to eggs, potatoes, etc. Make a vinaigrette: sauté chopped artichokes and shallots in olive oil, finish with lemon juice.

Beets

Beets contain betaine which thins the bile and helps it flow through the bile ducts.

Drink it or get the powder and be creative with it! Here are some great ways to consume beet juice powder.

Brown rice

The outer husk of this grain is insoluble fiber which absorbs water while traveling through the intestines and flushes waste out through the bowels.

Add brown rice to dishes or sprinkle with Golden Spice.

Quinoa

This seed that acts like a grain is high in magnesium which helps increase the alkaline reserves in your body (read this post). It also contains iron, manganese, copper, phosphorous, and folate.
