Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has been used as a home remedy for years for numerous reasons including including increased energy, weight loss and aiding in digestion. ACV is made from nutritious organically grown apples and retains many of the fruit’s beneficial components because raw apple cider vinegar is not pasteurized. In the fermentation process, it produces enzymes and life-giving nutrients that make ACV a wonderful powerhouse daily beverage choice.

It is important to choose ACV rather than clear vinegar. In the distilling process, clear vinegar has been stripped of everything beneficial. ACV contains many nutrients which include minerals such as phosphorus, magnesium, calcium and iron, and vitamins including vitamin C, vitamin E, vitamin A, and vitamin B6. Also, the pectin in the vinegar can help stabilize blood sugar levels.

It is recommended to drink 2 teaspoons of ACV in a glass of water 30 minutes before a meal. I’ve tried this method, and it’s not my favorite beverage! I’ve also tried ACV ‘shots’ – If you’d tried to drink it straight you know it’s not the easiest thing to get down. Doing these shots really burned my throat, so I was bound and determined to find ways to get it in.

Here is a great way to enjoy a nice cup of hot apple cider and get in these great benefits. I like to make one before I begin cooking dinner and then drink it while I am cooking.  Drinking it 30-40 minutes before a meal is optimal as it will aid in digestion and be able to interact with the metabolism of the food you eat. I also like to enjoy a cup at night. The time of day does not matter, what matters is that you drink it, but preferably not on a full stomach and not while eating your meal. I actually recommend not drinking liquids (more than few ounces) while eating a meal due as it interferes with the digestion process, but this rule does not apply if you are using just a little, for instance in your salad dressing.

Spicy Apple Cider
8-10 oz. hot water
2 tsp. of Apple Cider Vinegar
8-10 drops if liquid stevia
1/4 tsp. ground cinnamon and optional spices such as cloves, nutmeg, allspice or apple pie spice orpumpkin pie spice.

I have been asked before if it is okay to take the ACV capsules. I have personally tried them and didn’t see any difference, however, I do understand it has helped many people. Many of the capsule websites say that weight loss is slower with capsules, but effective over time. I also believe we should consume foods as they exist in nature, so I am sticking to the real deal. Here is my favorite brand.
