Ugh! I blew my diet. Now what?

You may have woken up feeling fat, bloated, and mad at yourself for overdoing it while celebrating Superbowl Sunday. Don’t panic! Most of the weight gain is most likely water weight. Especially if you ate a lot salty foods which make you retain more water. Here are a few tips to help you get rid of the extra weight after the big game is over! Follow these tips for a few days and you will not only feel better, you should shed all your Superbowl weight and more!

Start your morning with warm lemon water. It’s great to jump-start your day and remove toxins from the liver. Here is a quick video on starting your day with lemon water. But don’t just have lemon water in the morning, drink it all day long! Drink a lot of fluids throughout the day. People often confuse hunger with thirst. If you are hungry, drink some liquids and wait 10-15 minutes to see if you are hungry or if your body was just telling you it needed liquids. Also, drink a lot of detox teas  – my favorites are Triple Leaf and Yogi. Cranberry water is also a great drink to have all day long as cranberries help detox the body, flush away fat cells. Watch this quick video on drinking cranberry water.

Don’t skip the most important meal of the day! Starting your day with a nutrient dense and fiber rich delicious breakfast that is satisfying, filling and one that gives you energy. If I start my day right and am full, I am less likely to make poor eating decisions later in the day. I suggest a well balanced breakfast and include 2 eggs – don’t forget the yolks. The yolks have sulfur to support your liver’s cleansing process.

When trying to shed some extra party pounds, it’s important to eat clean, which simply means to stay away from foods which can cause gains or even ones that can clog our system such as dairy products. For me I stay away from all dairy products and nuts. I focus on eating foods high in protein and fiber as well as eat a number of healthy greens – their high fiber content helps the body eliminate toxins and helps you loose weight. Eat at least 4 cups of dark green leafy vegetables over the next few days. Raw is best, so have a nice big salad and have some spinach!

Protein raises your metabolism and helps detox the liver so I always eat 3 oz quality protein 3 times per day (men can eat 4-5 oz). I also stay away from pork as it’s the most toxic of all the animal proteins.

Fruits are very cleansing! they contain a lot of enzymes and minerals. I usually stick with apples, berries, blueberries, Kiwi, and melons as these fruits are low in natural sugar so your blood sugar  levels won’t be highly effected and you won’t have cravings. Eat 2-3 servings a day, but no more if you are trying to shed a few pounds.

Spice up your day with these great cleansing spices! These spices are especially helpful because they speed up the detoxification process inside the liver cells. They include dill, caraway seeds, cilantro, coriander, cumin, chili, cardamom, wasabi, horseradish, sesame seeds, water cress, basil, lemongrass, turmeric, fennel, fenugreek, ginger root, aniseed, chervil, green tea, parsley, and celery seed.

End your day with a detox bath – Fill a tub with as hot of water as you can stand. The hotter the water you use, the better, more thorough detox you will have. As the tub fills with water, add two cups of baking soda and one cup of Epsom salts. The hot water in the bath pulls toxins out of the body and to the surface of the skin. The Epsom salts aid this detoxifying process by making you sweat, which is body’s natural way of releasing toxins. The baking soda is highly alkaline which helps encourage poisons to be extracted from your system. You can also add one cup of sea salt which is widely known for its powers of purification. Twenty to thirty minutes is usually an adequate amount of time to soak in the bath and it is usually a good idea to drink plenty of water during or after your bath to replace the water you have sweated out.
