I love to dig into my bag of hemp hearts, and do so nearly every day. Hemp seeds are an amazing superfood. Now you might be thinking, really? Hemp? Isn’t that what hippies smoked back in the 70s? Although hemp is from the same plant family as marijuana, they have have very different properties and are completely different. (And no worries, you will not fail a drug test if you consume hemp seeds!)

hemp-seedsHemp is actually one of the world’s most perfect foods. While most foods only have a portion of the needed amino acids (building blocks), hemp seeds contain a complete set. Our bodies need 20 amino acids to make up a complete protein and you will find all 20 of them in these little seeds! Technically, eating hemp seeds alone could meet all your protein needs. Other seeds, although beneficial, do not offer this same amazing benefit.

Hemp seeds also have the exact ratio of healthy fats which are very important for good health. Our bodies need a good balance of the all important Omega 3, 6, and 9s in our diets. Although you can get these healthy fats through a number of foods, hemp seeds contain all three in the exact ratio that our body needs.  No other food does the same.

Hemp seeds are great for: heart & brain health, to help balance blood sugar levels, aid in lowering cholesterol, reducing inflammation and so much more! Add them into smoothies, oatmeal, yogurt, granola, energy bars, etc. You can also buy or make hemp butter which is healthier than peanut butter and great for those with peanut allergies.

Proper nutrition is key for fueling our bodies—giving us strength and energy to sustain us throughout the day. It is vitally important – critical even – that we take in the Word every day. Without it, we can become weak and dissatisfied in life. Just like a baby grows by having proper nutrition, Christians must grow through spiritual nutrition: consuming the Word of God. The Word is a spiritual superfood we want to dig into every day!

When we feed on God’s living word, its goodness enters our hearts and provides us with joy, wisdom, and health to our spiritual life and body. The more we read the Bible and apply it to our lives, the more we will grow as Christians, and the healthier we will be.

The Bible and hemp seeds—Your daily staples!

Like newborn babies, you must crave pure spiritual milk so that you will grow into a full experience of salvation. Cry out for this nourishment, now that you have had a taste of the Lord’s kindness. 1 Peter 2:2-3 (NLT).
