Soft drinks are wreaking havoc on the American diet – 1 out of every 5 calories of the typical American diet are calories from soft drinks. These beverages, even diet ones, are causing huge concern and weight gain all across our country! It’s been said that just 1 soda a day can add up to 15 pounds in just 1 year.

If you occasionally like to drink a soda or are ready to kick the soda habit, then I have an alternative to help wean yourself off unhealthy sodas.

Zevia – Zero Calories. All-Natural. No Sugar. Gluten-Free. Kosher. Vegan.

From a health perspective, I am not a fan of sodas, and I personally don’t think it’s healthy to drink any type of soda, especially regularly. Carbonated beverages are acid forming and it is not healthy for our bodies. However, I admit that was excited that a soda has hit the market with my favorite sweetener – Stevia. Stevia is actually an herb, it just happens to be sweet.

Although being sweetened with Stevia is far superior than the other artificial/chemical sugars currently used in most diet sodas, Zevia does contain more erythritol than stevia. Erythritol is a processed sugar alcohol which is usually made from GMO corn. I have contacted the company to see if this was true with their product, however, I have yet to resceive a response.

I first tried Zevia about a year ago, and for the most part I don’t care for it. I haven’t tried them all since I am not a big soda drinker, however, here are some I have tried along with my reviews.

Lemon Lime – My favorite of all of the ones I tried. I mix it in my Skinny Margaritas and have made punch out of it for family gatherings.

Rootbeer – Although it’s not as good as A & W, it’s not all bad. I enjoyed this flavor for the most part.

Orange – this one tasted very bitter to me. I would probably only have again if I mixed it with my coconut milk ice cream.

Cream Soda – Not at all like I remember cream soda as a child, but not bad. I would probably purchase again.

Cola – This one was a bit of a disappointment as it seemed very flat to me and I missed the “zip” that I liked about other sodas.

Although there is not much harm in drinking this product, there is not much nutrition benefit in these sodas. I believe we should drink this only on occasion and should not replace your water intake. Our bodies need water –  lots of it. Drinking water should be our first beverage choice, every day.

While Zevia may be a better form of soda in the grand scheme of things, any form of soda is not a healthy beverage to consume, and especially not on a daily basis. Moderation is the key.

If you have tried Zevia, let me know which flavors you liked (and which ones you hated!) in the comments section below.

I use the Zevia Lemon lime & a splash of the Orange in my ‘Skinny Margaritas’ too, along with (a Good Tequila, pure lime & lemon juiced, liquid truvia drops to taste; over ice).
My favorite flavor of Zevia is the Cream Soda. For an occasional 1-2x/week  ‘sweets attack’ or to curb major ‘hunger pains’ this one helps.

Overall, I too am anti-carbonated beverages. And people to take into consideration how much sodium the diet one’s have!

I actually prefer the Ginger Ale flavor over all of them. I also like the cola and the lemon-lime, but I do not care for the Grape. It is a fabulous substitute for sodas when I want just something sweet tasting…

Thanks for this! I am trying to implement some of you girls things, and this one could help me! Though I try to evade soda, when I get a craving, here’s an option instead of horrific aspartame or loads of sugar! I will put it in my fridge for those moments!
