Are you drinking enough water? It is estimated more than 75% of individuals are chronically dehydrated. Dehydration can cause chronic fatigue, headaches toxicity, digestive concerns, early aging, toxic load, and increased body and brain inflammation.

It’s important to stay hydrated, especially in the summer. By the time a person feels thirsty, his or her body has lost over one percent of its total water amount. In other words, if you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated.

Our bodies need water to survive, especially this time of year, but not all of us like the taste of water. I get bored with tasteless water and I don’t always take the time to infuse it.

Infusing is simple but you have to plan ahead. Fill a large jug with water, sliced fruit (try citrus, berries or melon) and refrigerate overnight.

Always start with lemon and then add in the bonus ingredients as desired. Drinking this lemon water consistently throughout the day, is one of the best things you can do for your body. Lemons are high in Vitamin C which aids the immune system but it will help with hydration, digestion, detoxification, and support weight loss.

It’s so easy to establish a great water intake routine!

Your water choices matter!

Whenever possible, use a quality bottled water or in-home filtration system.(Fiji is best).

Spring water comes from an underground source and has been filtered by the earth in ways we do not completely understand and far exceeds the purifying process than any man invented.

Purified water is water that comes from any source, but has been processed to remove any chemicals or contaminants—which has its advantages and disadvantages. The advantages are that potentially harmful chemicals may be taken out but the disadvantage is that the beneficial minerals that fresh water offers may be taken out as well.

Start with lemon juice and use whichever “add-on” sounds good. Whenever possible use fresh lemons, not artificial lemon juice. I freshly squeeze them and freeze is ice cube trays. It makes it easy to pop one in my water throughout the day.

Add-Ons

These “add-ons” help me drink more water AND detox my body at the same time!

  • A splash of unsweetened cranberry juice
  • A splash of Acai juice
  • Sprigs of mint
  • Fresh or frozen blueberries
  • Slices of cucumber
  • Pineapple chunks or slices (best when soaked for over 2 hours)
  • Orange slices or juice from an orange
  • Frozen clementine slices
  • Flavored ice cubes (made from watermelon, orange, lime, coffee, berries, etc.)
  • Tea – brew black, green, white, or flavored (i.e. passion fruit) then chill. I love to mix tea and Aha Peach for a delicious ice peach ice tea.
  • 3 slices of fresh ginger root
  • Lemonaid Stevia
  • Make it bubbly with sparkling water
  • Pour just a touch of 100 percent fruit juice (no added sugar)
  • Veggie broth – I make my own by cooking scraps then strain and freeze.

Get guzzling and stay hydrated!
