Prepackaged 100 calorie snack or a banana? Banana WINS!

Next time you run to the store for a quick snack, skip the snack isle and head for the produce section. There are so many healthy choices there and one of my favorites is bananas!Bananas are a great quick snack to take on the go, add to a smoothie, and easy to toss in the lunch box. So much healthier for you than one of the ever-popular 100 calorie snacks which are loaded with sugar, additives and refined flours.

One medium banana is about 105 calories and contains 0 grams of fat, and 3 grams of fiber. They are also great for those for who need to follow carbohydrate-controlled diets.

Bananas do have a few more grams of carbohydrate than apples and oranges, but that does not mean you should stay away from them! Some do get constipated when consuming bananas, so if this is an issue for you, increase your other sources of fiber.

Bananas also have amazing nutrients that have been scientifically proven to help with depression.  They contain tryptophan and phenylalanine, which are essential for the brain to produce serotonin and dopamine transmitters that stimulate physical and mental activity and act as natural antidepressants.

So, grab a banana and feel healthy and happy!
