Having a warm (room temperature or slightly warmer) glass of lemon water upon rising is good for detoxing the liver. The liver can make more enzymes out of fresh lemon juice than any other food element.

Be careful not to have the water too hot. Too much heat will destroy the vitamin C in the lemon juice. It is best to use all the juice from 1 lemon. If you do less, store the remaining lemon in a air-tight container. After a short period of time the vitamin C in a cut open piece of citrus will be destroyed without any change in temperature.

I usually have the other half in my water throughout the day. When life gives you a lemon, squeeze it, mix it with water and enjoy!

Of all the water-soluble vitamins, vitamin C is the most unstable and easily destroyed vitamin. It is highly soluble in water and gets easily destroyed by oxygen, alkalis and high temperatures. Exposure to oxygen causes the destruction of vitamin C.

For extra cleansing and to suppress appetite add 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and/or a dash of cayenne pepper to the beverage. If you need a sweetener you may want to add stevia. You can also add honey, although it is not recommended for every day consumption.

There are so many reasons to drink lemon water every day, but I’ll save that for another post.

Transform your health through the power of smart choices.
